"There was an album of early teenage rarities and leftovers called ‘Teratology’ that was rumoured to be released in February this year – has this been put aside for a rainy day or is it the basis of something else?
That’s been a long time coming, really. I want to do volumes 1-4 of Teratology over my next 50 or 60 years. Teratology is about the study of birth defects. If you think about an album as a birth, well, these songs are the bits that were defective in some way or cast aside for some reason. I think that sometimes they are the most interesting; they have a special insight, and are songs I’m really proud of. There have been a lot of albums that I’ve started and stopped because another concept took over, and then these songs sit on my computer, stay there and grow dust. So I’m trying to think of a way to get them out there without there being a big press release or anything…maybe it’ll be just for the fans. It’s almost like I care about it so much that I never get around to finishing it. But I will. And also, if you’ve just released an album, you don’t want it to take the attention away from the album. But I’ll find a way eventually."
